| Vernon has extensive experience in strategy development and project management in a wide range of industries.
He started his career in 1987 as a Project Engineer with Bluescope Steel, working on the commissioning of the Hot Strip Mill at Glenbrook. He then joined Thames Water as a Project Manager, working on design build contracts for several industrial process plants in the Asia-Pacific region.
After completing his MBA in 1994, he joined the management consultants McKinsey and Company as an Associate in their New York office, where he worked on several strategy development and change management projects in North America and Europe.
He continued his career as a Consultant with the Boston Consulting Group in their Auckland office, where he worked on strategy development projects in the Asia-Pacific region. He then joined the supermarket retailer Progressive Enterprises as Strategic Planning Manager in 1997, where he was responsible for strategic planning and strategy development. Notable achievements include the development of the business turnaround strategy and the customer loyalty programme, and leading the acquisition of Woolworth's.
He then joined Lion Breweries as Planning & Strategy Director, responsible for strategic planning, strategy development and management accounting, and was a member of the company's Leadership Team. His major project was the development of a comprehensive channel strategy.
Vernon has been involved with over 30 projects covering Channel Strategy, Corporate Strategy, Cost Reduction / Out-sourcing, Customer Loyalty, E-Commerce, Functional Strategy, Industry Structure, M&A, New Business Organizational Design and Portfolio Management. Industries covered are Banking, Chemicals, Construction, Food, Health,Manufacturing, Retail and Utilities.
